REFUGEE LEADERSHIP IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19 ONLINE CONFERENCE – APRIL 8, 2020

More than 175 refugees, former refugees, and asylum seekers from North-America, Latin America, the Africa region, the Mena region, Europe and the Asia pacific region, as well as NGOs and other stakeholders outlined the main challenges that refugees are facing during the coronavirus pandemic.

GLOBAL AGENDA SETTING, FROM THE BOTTOM UP: THE GLOBAL REFUGEE-LED NETWORK (GRN)

GRN with the partnership with the refugee studies center in oxford putting a remote public seminar series for the refugee studies center for the coming academic term – the series will convene panels to discuss what is being done to support refugee-led initiatives during the pandemic, and how these efforts might be sustained longer term to facilitate lasting forms of localized and participatory humanitarian governance.

  • Conducted 5 fortnightly community safety call checks on covid-19 via wats up/facebook with 70 people in the region.
  • 40 telephone surveys on c-19 issues with refugee women including undocumented.
  • Held one national virtual meeting with asylum seekers.
  • 5 fortnightly meetings with Asia pacific leadership committee.
  • Regional statement on c-19 concerns
  • 2 thematic issue papers on c-19 impacts education & women
  • Country c-19 report Iran, Australia, Indonesia
  • 10 short videos of refugee nurses.
  • 2 audio podcasts on c-19 ( Farsi, Arabic)
  • held 2 online live conversation with refugee doctors in Arabic
  • c-19 prevention video by refugee nurses for elderly in Dari language
